IFTA Fuel Tax Calculator

IFTA spreads your fuel tax across the states you drove in. Your fleet MPG (total miles divided by total gallons) sets how many gallons you used in each state. Tax is owed on those gallons at each state's rate, and you get credit for the tax you already paid at the pump in that state.

Questions

Where do I find the IFTA tax rates?

IFTA, Inc. publishes the official tax rate matrix every quarter at iftach.org. Some states also add a surcharge; include it in the rate you enter.

Why do I get a credit in some states?

If you bought more fuel in a state than you burned there, you already paid more tax at the pump than you owe, so that state credits you the difference.

When is IFTA due?

IFTA returns are due by the last day of the month after each quarter: April 30, July 31, October 31 and January 31.
